Post production
Looking back on this project, I’ve learned so much not just about filmmaking, but about storytelling in general. One of the biggest things I took away was how powerful visual storytelling can be. Instead of relying on dialogue or exposition, I focused on using lighting, framing, and small details to hint at the protagonist’s past. I wanted the audience to piece things together rather than be told everything outright, and I think that made the story more engaging.
I also got a lot better at planning and editing. Going into this, I knew the basics, but actually bringing my ideas to life took a lot of trial and error. Working with iMovie, I had to be really intentional with my cuts and pacing to keep the tone consistent. I also experimented with different shots to build suspense and make the film feel immersive.
Beyond the technical side, this project really made me think about how film can represent real-life issues. My story focuses on the fear and isolation abuse survivors often feel when trying to speak out, and I wanted to portray that in a way that felt honest and emotional. I didn’t want to sensationalize trauma, but instead, show the lasting impact it has on someone’s life.

Post about production of CCRs
Creating my Creative Critical Reflections (CCRs) was an interesting process because I wanted to make them engaging rather than just reading off a script. Instead of a traditional sit-down video, I decided to film one while baking and another as an interview-style video. This way, the answers felt more natural and conversational while still covering everything I needed to reflect on.
For the baking video, I wanted to keep it casual and relatable. Talking through my answers while doing something active helped make the explanations feel more natural, almost like a vlog. I made sure to structure my responses clearly, so even though it felt spontaneous, I still hit all the key points.
The interview-style CCR gave a more structured approach. Having the questions presented in a Q&A format helped break things up and made it feel more like a discussion rather than a monologue. I focused on making my answers clear and direct while still keeping them engaging.
For editing, I used iMovie, which allowed me to cut unnecessary pauses, adjust pacing, and add any needed visuals. I kept the editing simple so the focus remained on my responses.
Overall, producing my CCRs was a great way to reflect on everything I’ve learned throughout this project. It was also a chance to experiment with different presentation styles to keep things interesting. I’m excited to see how they turn out!

Post about post-production of CCRs
Editing My CCRs: The Post-Production Process
Once I finished filming my Creative Critical Reflections (CCRs), the next step was editing and refining them to ensure they were clear, engaging, and well-paced. Since I used two different formats—one while baking and another as an interview—I had to tailor my editing approach for each.
For the baking video, I aimed to keep it natural and conversational while maintaining structure. Using iMovie, I cut out unnecessary pauses and adjusted the pacing to make the flow smoother. I also made small edits to keep my answers focused while still feeling spontaneous and authentic.
The interview-style CCR required a more structured edit. I made sure transitions between questions were seamless and refined the audio for clarity. The goal was to make it polished but not overly scripted, so I kept the editing clean and minimal.
Throughout the process, I focused on keeping the videos engaging without overcomplicating the edits. By fine-tuning pacing and clarity, I was able to enhance my responses while ensuring they remained natural and easy to follow. Now that everything is finalized, I’m excited to share my reflections and see the final result!

Last question of my CCR
- How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
- For my two-minute mystery film opening, I used various technologies across pre-production, production, and post-production to enhance the storytelling and cinematic quality. In my pre-production, I used storyboarding, along with shot lists and schedules. During production, I relied on my camera for high-quality visuals adjusted the settings of my phone camera, used sounds from sources provided, and good lighting to shape the suspenseful atmosphere. Online resources like YouTube and Pinterest helped with visual inspiration. In post-production, I edited the footage in iMovie, fine-tuned color grading for a moody aesthetic.

3rd question for my ccr
How did your production skills develop throughout this project? for my mystery film opening
Throughout this project, my production skills developed significantly, especially in visual storytelling, cinematography, and editing. I learned how to use camera angles, framing, and lighting to create suspense, experimenting with low-key lighting and shadows to enhance the mystery. Feel that my editing skills definitely have improved as I focused on the use of precise cuts and sound design to build tension and intrigue. I also became more conscise with mise-en-scène, ensuring that set design, props, and character contributed to the story’s themes. Additionally, I developed problem-solving skills, adapting to challenges on set and refining my ability to convey mystery through visual and auditory elements. Overall, this project strengthened my ability to be creative an engaging and suspenseful film opening while improving my technical and unique decision-making.

Researching and analyzing first question of my CCR
Hey blog today im analyzing the first question of my CCR! In today's blog I will be summarizing my process and telling you what I have on mind for my ccr.
How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
For the research of the first question on the CCR, I started by analyzing mystery film conventions, particularly those involving missing persons and psychological suspense that is what im mainly focusing on for this project, to understand how they create tension and engage their audiences. Then I examined films that focus on survival from the perspective of the missing person, allowing for a more intimate and psychological exploration of fear and isolation. Additionally, I researched real-life cases of missing women, exploring themes of societal neglect, trauma, and self-preservation, which informed the film’s social commentary. Studies on lighting, sound design, and cinematography in thrillers helped shape how to visually represent suspense.
some of the cases researched:
https://www.nytimes.com/topic/jayme-closs
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Smart
How does it represent social groups or issues: Mainly based on survival, societal neglect, and the psychological effects of trauma my main character was facing to symbolize particularly through the lens of missing women. It addresses the reality that missing persons cases are often treated unequally based on factors such as gender, race, and socioeconomic status. Many individuals, especially women receive less media attention and fewer investigative resources. The opening explores issues related to trauma and mental health. The decision to hide instead of seeking help may reflect past experiences with authority figures who failed her, illustrating distrust in law enforcement or societal institutions. This aligns with real-world cases where victims of abuse, trafficking, or violence fear that coming forward will not guarantee their safety. The film could also highlight how the media portrays missing persons questioning who is deemed worthy of public concern and who is ignored.

Post filming
Today I continued our filming from where we left off which was the kitchen scenes. I spent a lot of time reviewing footage and I used my storyboard which was very helpful and recorded most of the scenes in the kitchen. I scheduled added more days on my filming schedule because I have more time to do it, I improved my schedule for my other classes so I get rid of the stuff that could get on my way when filming, i decided to film another day and dedicate it solely to filming the outside scenes too. i changed a few things to make the setting and story fit in more with what im trying to achieve. Also the location was helpful because the location the lighting is much better, whilst also still maintaining the dark lightning that is a main thing in mystery films.

Editing pt 2!
This is the second blog n editing process of the project, editing a film opening for a mystery film presented some challenges, the main obstacle was maintaining suspense, establishing atmosphere, and pacing the reveal of key plot elements without giving too much away. One challenge I faced was balancing tension with visual clarity, with the goal of ensuring that key clues were subtly hinted at while still keeping the audience intrigued. A solution to this was using selective lighting and shadow effects in iMovie to create a moody, suspenseful atmosphere. Additionally, iMovie's ability to layer sound effects and background music allowed me to build a sense of unease through sound without overwhelming the visuals. My favorite features in iMovie were the "Split Clip" tool for precise editing feature to add subtle, atmospheric overlays, which helped enhance the mystery's visual storytelling. These tools made the editing process smoother, enabling me to begin with a good editing process of the opening.

Obstacle/Issues
Hey blog this is the third blog of the week and I will be telling you some of the things that ive been struggling with throughout this process of creating the film opening. To begin I would like to start telling you that it was a bit hard for me to make the choice of working alone, I thought it would be somehow better/easier, because I would not be depending on another person and could adjust to their time and availability so then I decided to work by myself. In the beginning it was sort of easy, but it felt like I had to come up with more and more ideas, and a lot of creativity and I felt like I wouldn't be able to do it myself, I started getting stressed, and felt like I kept running out of ideas, and didnt have a specific one. Then started debating if I should work with someone, until the first group meeting, I was very excited for this activity and it resulted being super helpful, I really enjoyed listening to other peoples opinions and ideas, advices for my project, and also really liked being able to help them with their projects too.
Next I had time management, I created a filming schedule, I play sports and have tournaments some of the weekend and have practice 3 times a week, after school and it ends kind of late but something I liked was that I was able to handle this by using some resources I had to help me organize my time and the tasks I assigned myself each day for this project. Some of resources used were my agenda, the schedule I made, and the blogs. The posting of blogs at first I thought it was silly and was no point on doing it but once I started doing them weekly and in different days of the week, made me more active on the activity and keep track of the project.
Brainstorming was tough, I felt like I didnt have any idea of what I wanted to do, also I felt like I needed to handle multiple roles, like filming, writing blogs, edit, brainstorm, which was overwhelming since I felt that i lack in certain areas. I wanted to focus on this because this was a behind the scenes thing, that I feel that some people also could've felt the same way, but when seeing the positive is that I was able to find a solution and fix any issue. The main one was using the camera I viewed a couple videos to get more familiar with it in this case the way to be able to maximize quality by lightning.
My schedule:

shots list
The film opens with a girl in the kitchen filled with the warm glow of flickering candles, creating an intimate yet suspense atmosphere. Soft, haunting music plays in the background as we see a young girl wearing baggy clothes, her scars subtly visible on her arms as she prepares a meal. Each slice of vegetables or her baking something and stir of the pot is accompanied by flashbacks that hint at her traumatic past, weaving a mysterious narrative that keeps the audience intrigued. The camera captures her focused expressions, revealing a mix of determination and vulnerability, while the shadows in the kitchen seem to set unease feeling/tone to the film opening. As she cooks, the tension builds, leaving viewers eager to uncover the secrets behind her scars and the story that lies beneath the surface.
We’ll use extreme close-ups to capture the girl’s hands as she chops ingredients, emphasizing her focus and the scars on her skin, which tells part of her story. White shots will establish the kitchen environment, showing the contrast between her solitude and the bustling world outside. Striking shots will highlight key moments, like the flicker of a candle or the steam rising from a pot, creating an atmosphere of mystery. Point of view shots will immerse the audience in her experience, allowing them to see the world through her eyes as she navigates her memories. High-angle shots will give a sense of vulnerability, making her appear small in her surroundings, while quick cuts to black will create tension and anticipation, leaving viewers questioning what lies ahead in her journey.

Setting production process included!
Today I started with the first day filming, I had 2 of my friends as my characters for the initiation of the film opening, in order to begin I started setting everything up for the production of the first two scenes, 1st scene was the girl baking, everything at the kitchen, along with other scenes that also will take place here, got 2 bowls and some kitchen utensils (baking) that people usually use when cooking/baking and decorated the area and customized it for each scene, I used my camera and played with the lightning to find the perfect lightning that would match with the scene, in this case im using low key lightning, creates an atmosphere of suspense and intrigue by using deep high contrast to dark details and enhance tension. I decided to use makeup to draw the scars, and also markers, I used cake mix to make the setting look more realistic and this took me about 30 mins, drew the scars and bought the cake mix and started putting everything in each bowl, etc.

Filming Schedule!!
Hey blog, were getting closer to the end of this important project, and something that is crucial whenever I need to organize myself is have an agenda or stuff that will help me stay more organized in my day to day life, another thing is a schedule, I set a schedule myself for when im filming, im gonna start filming this week, I already have the setting, and my friends will be the ones helping me through out this process, im going to be the one filming they are just going to appear as my characters in this project.
Creating a schedule for my filming days play an important role when enhancing my project's success by ensuring better organization and time management. Im a person who distracts and forgets things very easily this would help me stay on track, increase productivity of me working on the project, and reduces stress, I get very stressed even if its something that isn't a big deal I tend to get very nervous and stressed and by breaking down the work into manageable tasks would be easier. Ive done this before and it helps me with deadlines they are more efficiently and when allocating resources like locations, actors, and equipment effectively. Overall, I find this smart and beneficial for me.

Focusing on costume and setting
For today the last blog of the week ill be focusing on costume design, in general terms costume design in a film opening is crucial, in establishing character, tone, background and setting before any dialogue or action unfolds. The way a character dresses can communicate a lot of things such as personality, emotional state, social status and even hidden backstory to the audience. In genres like in this case mystery costume choices can also foreshadow key plot elements, making the audience more engaged in uncovering the character’s journey.

my protagonist’s costume is essential in visually showing her trauma, insecurities, and desire to stay hidden without a dialogue needed. I would want her to wear an oversized hoodie or jacket in dark, warm color tones, symbolizing emotional retreat and protection, paired with baggy jeans or cargo pants or sweats something chill. Her high-neck, long-sleeve shirt conceals her scars, and to reinforce her self-consciousness, while worn-out sneakers or combat boots to show she is constantly on the move. Accessories like a beanie, gloves, or a sentimental item subtly hint at her past and emotional ties. The messy hair and lack of makeup reflect the lack of importance from self-image due to past trauma. This costume design helps foreshadow her backstory and mental state, making her development more engaging as the audience unravels her hidden struggles.

Focusing on lightning and props
Today im doing on the blogs planning that focuses on the mise-en-scène elements of my project like costume, set, props, and lighting, but I will be mainly focusing on lightning and props, they are essential in creating my film openings atmosphere in this case I would like to focus on creating intrigue, tension, and suspense. The types of lightning techniques I would like to incorporate would be low-key lighting, it is a good technique that enhances shadows and contrast, obscuring certain details to make the audience question what is lurking in the darkness. Selective lighting can also be used to direct the audience’s focus, such as illuminating a hand reaching for a door handle while the rest of the frame remains in shadow. To add an unsettling feel, flickering or moving light sources like swinging bulbs, or flashlights can create an unstable, unpredictable effect. Additionally, colored lighting plays a psychological role—cool tones such as blue and green evoke mystery and unease. Using practical light sources, such as candles, desk lamps, or headlights, helps create a natural environment.
Props in my opinion are as important as lighning, especially when setting up the mystery and hinting at key elements of the plot. Mainly adding personal objects with a meaning behind such as a diary, or an old family picture showing an unresolved past or a secret yet to be discovered when watching the rest of the film but it adds the feeling of anxiety to know what will happen and also creating interest on the story of the main character, also im debating on using coded messages, or missing pages from a book, add layers of intrigue and encourage the audience to piece together clues to create curiosity and foreshadow a larger mystery. additionally I could use elements, such as a blinking red recording light, a ringing phone with no answer, or a forgotten camera still filming, contribute to the feeling that someone is watching or uncovering secrets.

focusing on sound for my project
on todays blog I will be explaining the way I will be incorporating sound on my film opening. Sound is a very important way to set mood, and tone, and I want it to play a crucial role in establishing the mood and tone of my film opening by creating a feeling of tension and anticipation, and using sound effects and usual noises to help to immerse the audience in what they're watching. For example, I would like to incorporate sounds that will match with the setting and make the film opening more realistic such as the sound of rain, or distant conversations. This auditory backdrop supports the visuals and enhances the storytelling by providing context and depth to the scenes.
https://youtu.be/_Jznye0iqYE?si=fj-ZPrVewJtuwvTU
I would add background noises like distant thunder or wind. A song with a slow melody with a suspenseful score can really set the emotional tone. On the other hand we have the use of sound effects if there are specific actions like baking or walking using sound effects that foreshadow my character's situation, i could use sounds that match those actions. For example, my character could be dealing with something heavy, the sound of a heartbeat or heavy breathing can add to the tension. But I also believe that the absence of sound can be just as powerful. A moment of silence can create a sense of anticipation before a big reveal or action. Using these sound elements can really help engage the audience and make them feel connected to my character's journey.

character development
Today im doing the first blog of the 4th week of the production of my film opening, and im focusing on the way my character will develop through out my film opening/story, mainly focusing on showing personality through actions, setting, and body language before dialogue. And get to introduce the main problem or tension that will reveal a lot of the backstory of the character that in this case would be her trauma, on the other hand I have the use of costume design, props, and environment that support it, and I want the character to be a good way to be engaged by the development of the character and a moment that makes the audience invest in the character’s journey. From the use of lighting, color, and music to reflect their emotional state we get to embrace a better mood of tension and a specific setting where my character will be interacting with. I want the actions or objects can foreshadow my character's situation.
